Baby Root Canal – Pulpotomy

STOP THEIR PAIN AND SAVE THEIR TOOTH!

DR. LYNDA DEAN-DURU PROVIDES SAFE AND COMFORTABLE BABY ROOT CANAL TREATMENT FOR CHILDREN.

When a Good Tooth Goes Bad

When decay spreads deep enough to affect the nerve of a tooth, the infection can then cause a number of problems, including pain. In the past, the tooth would most likely be lost, but today we can perform root canal treatment for children, called a baby root canal or pulpotomy, to remove the infection and save the tooth. It is important for children to have their natural baby teeth as long as possible to maintain spacing and allow all of their teeth to erupt in the proper position.

What Is Inside a Tooth?pulpotomy-300x282

Inside every tooth is a pulp chamber with nerves. When a tooth becomes cracked or has a deep cavity, the germs can get into the pulp chamber and cause an infection within the tooth. If this infection is not treated, pus starts to accumulate in the jaw bone around the tooth, forming a “pus pocket.”

This is an abscess and it can cause pain, swelling, and the death of pulp tissue. The side effects of the infection can be far-reaching, injuring the jaw bone and compromising overall health. An infected tooth will not heal on its own and will only get worse. Without a pulpotomy, the tooth may need to be taken out.

WE OFFER A VARIETY OF SEDATION OPTIONS FOR A STRESS-FREE PROCEDURE FOR YOUR LITTLE ONES

How Is a Baby Root Canal Performed?

Root canal treatment for children is generally comfortable and can be performed with anesthetic and sedation to ensure your child remains pain-free and relaxed throughout the entire procedure. During a pulpotomy, Dr. Dean-Duru removes the infected tissue and seals the area with a special medication to restore the remaining nerve. Back teeth that receive a pulpotomy should be strengthened with a crown. With proper homecare and regular check-ups, the treated tooth should remain healthy until it falls out at the appropriate age.
